We are a non-profit, non-partisan civil rights organization, comprised of volunteers serving the Southern Burlington County New Jersey area. The historic branch behind the "Mt. Laurel Doctrine" court case that led to the national fair share housing legislation, remains committed to advancing our community through advocacy for policy change, transparency and accountability.
Whether if you join our branch, or if you make a donation to fund the work we're doing in the community, we appreciate your contribution! We couldn't accomplish our goals without the help of supporters like you.

Southern Burlington County NAACP was chartered May 9, 1966 in Cinnaminson, NJ. Under President Roosevelt Nesmith’s leadership, the branch became very active in advocating for civil rights for all Americans, which set the stage for the branch taking the lead in the 1975 landmark civil rights case, Southern Burlington County N.A.A.C.P. v. Mount Laurel Township (commonly called Mount Laurel I). In this case, the Southern Burlington County NAACP challenged the zoning ordinance of Mount Laurel Township, on the grounds that it operated to exclude low and moderate income persons from obtaining housing in the municipality.
Southern Burlington County’s advocacy for low and moderate income families has established a legacy for this historic branch.

Southern Burlington County NAACP has a longstanding tradition of providing opportunities for the public to speak directly to those running for office and seeking their votes. This video is from the 2018 Candidate's Forum.
